Assistant Director: Culture, Tourism & Sport

We’re looking for a senior manager with the vision and corporate leadership skills to set, shape and realise the strategic direction of this diverse portfolio. Your wide-ranging remit will include responsibility for:

  • the transfer of the Royal Pavilions and Museum to an independent trust;
  • leading on the agenda for City Region culture and creative economy for Greater Brighton;
  • implementing our new Visitor Economy Strategy;
  • developing a new investment plan for our sports and leisure facilities;
  • leading the Events Strategy for the city.

While it’s essential that this individual has a passion for arts, culture and leisure, it’s more important that they also present a highly developed appreciation of how these areas fit within the wider place agenda, and can support the economic growth of the city. We’re looking for a versatile leader with a breadth of perspective and experience. Experience or knowledge of a range of different delivery and governance models around service provision will be of real value – we’re working ever more closely with our community and creating new partnership arrangements that harness different sources of expertise.

You should bring a sound understanding of investment planning, to protect and develop our cultural assets, and practical experience of contract management is essential. The ability to work well with a diverse range of stakeholders is key: you’ll need to be able to influence, advocate and broker agreement on an agenda that people are passionate about.
